Started by Catherine Crawford (Cathy) after
completing her Bachelor Degree at the University of
Pittsburgh. With young sons still at home, it was the
perfect "mother" business. The creation of her vision was
assisted by her husband (Jim), two sons (Christopher and
Charles - usually known as "CJ"), an Italian exchange
student (Alex Columbo) and many friends.
The vision was to change a 1851 brick Victorian house
in the picturesque mountain community of Ligonier, PA into
a fantasy world for kids (six rooms filled with toys, games & puzzles).
The kitchen was turned into an Indoor Forest
(puppets and large plush).
The bathroom was
turned into a Train Room (Brio,Thomas,Maple
Landmark).
The living room was turned into a Doll Room featuring Middleton, Corelle & Madame Alexander.
The three bedrooms became:
1) The Nursery (Preschool items from Brio, Lamaze, Holgate,
Melissa & Doug and Schylling)
2) The Game Room (Gamewright, Think Fun,
Winning Moves, etc...) and
3) The Play Room (where you can find Playmobil and Specialty Lego).
Closets became caves and a train board
covers the old bathtub.
Located 50 miles (as the crow flies) from Downtown
Pittsburgh, at the foot of the Western slope of the Laurel
Mountains, Ligonier is a picture postcard,
turn-of-the-century (1899-1901) town. Little shops line
the two main streets running North/South and East/West.
Please visit
www.ligonier.com for pictures & further details.
Fort Ligonier, a reconstructed French and Indian War
fort sits on a bluff less than one block from the store.
Many believe that the store is located on the site of the
original fort's hospital.

Three miles to the east is the Compass Inn, a restored
stage coach stop and inn.

Two miles west, is the classic trolley line/railroad
amusement park, IDLEWILD, Mr Roger's Trolley is one of the
main features. Idlewild is the second-oldest family park still in use in
the United States. Please visit their web site at

The area abounds in beautiful scenery and a multitude
of recreational activity (nordic skiing, downhill skiing,
mountain biking,
hiking, white water rafting, canoeing, etc.)
