Our Collector series toys are made using the time honored methods that existed before plastic toys took over the toy industry. Before there was plastic, all toys were made out of wood, paper, cloth or metal. There are very few factories left anywhere in the world that still produce tin toys because plastic toys are much easier to make. Each tin toy starts out as a thin sheet of steel. The steel sheets are coated and run through printing presses. The complete surface of tin toys can be decorated with the printing. The colorful printing on the tin gives the finished toys a rich vibrant look. Decals on plastic can never achieve this look. After being printed, the tin sheets are cut so that each piece of the toy is on its own piece of tin. Each tin piece is then passed through a series of molds that are mounted on powerful stamping machines. These molds do the final cutting and shaping of each piece. The pieces are then hand assembled to create the finished toy. Given the incredible amount of attention and labor required to make each piece, it is easy to understand why toy makers moved away from tin toy production and adopted plastic molding technologies.
